Hold a juried art show at your local gallery. Invited artists can visit one of the nearest wilderness areas in 2013, and then produce their art for a show in Sept. 2014.

Photo 2014 Photo Calendar Contest
In 2013, have a photo calendar contest with winning photos revealed in the 2014 Wilderness Calendar. All photos submitted to the contest could be part of a photo exibit, at a venue or online during the year. Then, the essay or a poetry contest could correspond with the calendar's photos.

Chapters create wilderness photography exhibits
Have each chapter develop a photo exhibit with 50 images (one for each year) that celebrates wilderness in their area. This exhibit travels throughout the year to museums, schools and galleries. A collateral book could be created and sold as well.

Wilderness Work Day
Require all employees in units which administer Wilderness to spend the day maintaining trails, picking up trash, or rehabilitating recreation sites.

Twistory: Reliving the Passage of the Wilderness Act
Twistory=A Twitter Story.
I envision something similar to the twistory that was done by the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum for the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11: http://twitter.com/#!/reliveapollo11. Essentially, Relive Apollo 11 was a real time Twitter feed of the Apollo 11 mission, 40 years to the date after it happened. Develop a traveling exhibit and celebration to coordinate with local community events. The exhibit would be a ready resource limiting the demands on individual communities, yet allow for local stories and flavors to be shared.

Create a news aggregator site that collects news about wilderness from wide and disparate sources. A one-stop site that would highlight news of the wild, and could be used to generate further stories, and enthusiasm.

Create Chautauqua Wilderness Rendezvous Fair
Produce Chautauqua (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chautauqua ) educational camps and fairs about wilderness in major centers around the country with talks and presentations by Ken Burns, Terry Tempest Williams, etc., living history by Lee Stetson (John Muir), Dr. Clay Jenkinson (Teddy Roosevelt), a Gifford Pinchot living history artist, etc., with artists works, natural history presentations, music, etc., hosted by employees of the four agencies of the Natl. Wilderness Preservation System to occur during the months of August and September 2014.
